Three Best Drews In NFL History

 

Throughout the history of the NFL, quite a few Andrews (or Drews) have made an impact at the highest level. Even though that name has been around for centuries, it seems like all the impact NFL players with the name are relatively new. Here is a look at the top three, who all just happen to be quarterbacks.

 

Drew Brees

 

Known for his huge numbers in fantasy fantasy football football every single year, Drew Brees has carved out a Hall of Fame career for himself. He started in San Diego, but he made his name in New Orleans. He has won two NFC MVP Awards, and in Super Bowl XLIV, he lead the Saints to their first ever title while winning MVP honors. Even at age 35, he is going strong.

 

Drew Bledsoe

 

Was Drew Bledsoe a great quarterback? That’s debateable, as he is not going to Canton any time soon. However, he was a four-time Pro Bowler who also has a Super Bowl Championship on his resume (albeit as a backup to Tom Brady). He came out of Washington State and was drafted #1 overall, so teams always knew Bledsoe had the talent to succeed in the NFL.

 

(An)drew Luck

 

On rare occasions, Andrew Luck goes by Drew. Aren’t all Drews actually Andrews though? This is the best young quarterback in the game, and he is already showing signs that he could be a Hall of Famer if he stays healthy. He is about the make the playoffs for the third time in as many tries with the Indianapolis Colts, and he could be the best quarterback in the NFL in the next year or two. He’s still very young, but he is probably the Drew with the most potential ever in the NFL.

Ranking The Top Tier Running Backs For 2014

Anyone who plays fantasy football can tell you that it all starts with having a very solid running game. As we get ready for the 2014 season, there appears to be a top-tier of talent at the position. A total of 6 running backs should be locks for the 1st round in any league. Here is a short preview of what to expect out of each in the upcoming season.

 

Adrian Peterson

We are closing in on the and of Peterson’s prime, but he should still be the most consistent running back in fantasy football this year. He has battled some injuries in the last few seasons, and missing 2 games down the stretch last year certainly left a sour taste. However, he has an entire offense built around him, and that counts for something. He might not have his best season ever in 2014, but he is a safe pick at number 1.

 

Jamaal Charles

The reigning fantasy football champion at running back will be ready for another great season in 2014. The biggest reason why he is kept out of the top spot is because it is going to be very difficult for him to score 19 touchdowns again. He is able to have success mainly because of his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. He was targeted over 100 times last year, and that makes up for is sometimes lacking running totals. Feel confident that he is a top 3 option for sure, and taking a number 1 overall is not a reach.

 

LeSean McCoy

Realistically, McCoy is one of only 3 players (the others listed above) who have a shot at going number 1 overall in fantasy football. He was able to revitalize his career thanks to Chip Kelly being in town. He easily won the rushing title last year in the NFL, and he has a very good shot of doing it again in 2014. Adding Darren Sproles to the mix will probably hurt his receiving numbers, but Philadelphia runs a lot plays throughout the game. He will have opportunities to succeed.

 

Matt Forte

It was a very successful 2013 season for Forte, as he was able to do a lot of things for the Chicago Bears. The most promising statistic in 2013 was the fact that he finally found a way to score on a consistent basis. He was able to find the end zone 12 times, and that made him a very valuable piece in fantasy football. Chicago’s offense is not going to be slowing down anytime soon, so expect him to be a very consistent threat all year long.

 

Eddie Lacy

Lacy was dangerous as a rookie, and he had to play quite a few games without Aaron Rodgers by his side. With those 2 players teaming up, there is a chance that both could really take off in fantasy football. He is a big running back at 230 pounds, but he has the ability to show finesse as well. Durability was thought to be an issue early on in his career, but after a concussion scare, he was able to stay on the field consistently.

 

Marshawn Lynch

Call this a Super Bowl hangover if you will, but Lynch is the most vulnerable of the top 6 running backs in the NFL as far as fantasy football is concerned. He has been very dependable in the past, but his age and the wear and tear on his body might be too much this upcoming year. Seattle is also hoping to work in some different options at running back to take the workload off of him. He is still going to be solid and worthy of a 1st round pick, but he will be the weakest link out of these guys.

Super Bowl XLVIII Projections

Super Bowl XLVIII finally gets underway this sunday in New York/New Jersey and the first outdoor Super Bowl in a cold weather city will have the two best teams all year face off. Both the NFC champion Seattle Seahawks and the AFC champion Denver Broncos have played in bad weather this season so they should be prepared for anything the weather could throw at them.

Making their 7th Super Bowl appearance, the Denver Broncos bring their record setting offense to the big game lead by league MVP Peyton Manning who is trying to get his second ring and first with Denver. Of course one of the most criticized outdoor, cold weather players in Manning would play in the first outdoor, cold weather Super Bowl. Peyton can silence a lot of his critics with a W on sunday. Making only their 2nd Super Bowl appearance is the Seattle Seahawks and their shut down defense. All the talk about the Seahawks has been around Richard Sherman and his post game comments after the NFC championship game but there is more to the Seattle defense than just Sherman’s great play.

The big matchup this sunday will be between the Broncos historic offense against the league leading Seattle defense. Can the Seattle secondary contain Peyton Manning and his multiple weapons at his disposal. Peyton is having one of his greatest seasons in an already impressive career and will be by far the best quarterback leading the best offense the Seahawks have faced all year. The only way the Seahawks have a real chance to win is by containing that lethal Denver offense.

One of the match ups that has not been talked about is the Seattle offense against the Denver defense. Russell Wilson has not performed very well this postseason relying mostly on the great play by the defense and the running game led by Marshawn Lynch. Russell Wilson cannot be a game manager in this game he needs to come out early and establish the passing game against a stout Denver defense so Beast Mode can be unleashed. Percy Harvin has to be a factor in this game on both offense and in special teams.

Seattle will get out early first running behind Lynch and Wilson will get off to a good start, but the Denver offense will answer finding small holes in the Seattle defense. Peyton will be his usual efficient self but will throw at least one interception but the Denver defense will get at least two turnovers from Seattle. Denver will take the lead and hold off a late Seattle surge and get Peyton his second ring in a close, great game.

2014 NFL AFC/NFC Championship Picks

AFC Championship Game

New England @ Denver

Well we’ve seen this before. Once again Peyton Manning and Tom Brady will face off with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line. Only difference is the new location for Peyton as the Broncos are one win away from realizing the dream they installed when they signed Peyton. Of course the always resilient Tom Brady and the New England Patriots stand in their way in the matchup that we all wanted to see. In their first matchup this year it was a close victory by the Patriots that was a special teams mistake from being a possible tie after the Broncos blew a 24 point lead. This sundays entry into the Manning vs Brady story will be a close one as usual especially now that the Broncos defense has to pay extra attention to the Patriots running game after last week they ran all over the Colts. I think being so close to the promise land and after the disappointment last year the Broncos will reach the Super Bowl  beating the Patriots by a late field goal. Denver 31 New England 28

NFC Championship Game

San Francisco @ Seattle

Similar to the AFC Championship Game, the NFC Championship Game has the matchup that we all wanted to see. The third meeting of the NFL’s newest, greatest rivalries, the Seahawks and the 49ers. This game has me torn. On one hand I picked the 49ers in the beginning of the year to win the NFC and go to the Super Bowl. On the other hand, I like the Seahawks this year more and of course the game is being played in Seattle with their crazy 12th man which will swing the game towards the Seahawks. The Seahawks need Russell Wilson to have a better game than he did against New Orleans and more like the previous match up this year at home against San Francisco, so I think he will have a great game and will lead the Seahawks to New York against the Broncos in the Super Bowl. Seattle 27 San Francisco 20

Joe Flacco Throws 70-Yard TD

Baltimore’s Joe Flacco was bragging in the off-season that he was the best quarterback in the NFL and no one took him seriously. Well, he tried to prove it against Peyton Manning’s Denver Broncos with his impressive last-minute, 70-yard throw to Jacoby Jones for the touchdown knocking out the Denver Broncos out of the playoffs with a 38-35 double overtime victory last Saturday. A desperation pass on a third-down play with just 41 seconds left in regulation.

They don’t have timeouts left, and they were trailing by 7 points, Joe Flacco let loose the ball to a sprinting Jones down the right sideline into double coverage. Safety Rahim Moore attempted to knock the ball by jumping in the air, and Tony Carter tried to stop it but instead Jones caught it easily for a 70-yard touchdown to tie the game and force overtime. Flacco had 18 of 31 passes for 331 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.

We may not agree about Joe Flacco being the best quarterback in the NFL, but in this game his was better than Peyton Manning who had 3 touchdown passes and 2 interceptions.
