2014 NFL Wild Card Picks

Kansas City @ Indianapolis
The first wild card matchup features two teams who have been at the bottom of the league over the past two years and fought back to the postseason. What a season 2013 has been for Kansas City after a disastrous 2012 was. After bringing in new head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Alex Smith, the Chiefs went from 2-14 to 11-5 and a wild card berth. For Indy, 2013 brought more growth for Andrew Luck and the Colts winning the AFC South and making the playoffs in back to back years. The best matchup in this game will be the Colts offense against the Chiefs defense and the Chiefs d haven’t looked as strong at times this year. Indy will used the home dome advantage to handle the Chiefs and get Andrew Luck his first playoff victory. Indianapolis 24 Kansas City 14

San Diego @ Cincinnati
What a crazy week San Diego had last week. Needing losses from Miami & Baltimore would be stressful enough but surviving a missed field goal from Kansas City and getting the coveted win would put several Chargers fans in the nut house. They now travel to the winners of the AFC North, the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals, making their third straight playoff appearance, were so close to getting the coveted bye week but came up just short and now have the Chargers to deal with in the wild card round. Good for the Chargers getting into the playoffs but they almost missed out losing to the Chiefs backups so I’ll take the Bengals at home. Cincinnati 34 San Diego 21

New Orleans @ Philadelphia
I’m still surprised the Saints are in the wild card round rather than resting this week with a bye as the NFC South division champions but losing three out of your last five games while the Carolina Panthers play red hot and take the division from you. So now they have to leave the nice comfy dome and play on the frigid, icy field in Philadelphia who last week survived a Romo-less Dallas team to get to the playoffs. If this game is played in New Orleans I’m taking the Saints but fortunately for the Eagles it’s not. The weather is suppose to play a big part this weekend so I expect LeSean McCoy will have a big game leading to the Eagles coming out with a W in a very close game. Philadelphia 24 New Orleans 21

San Francisco @ Green Bay
Another example of the location having a big impact on who I’m picking this week, the 49ers travel to the icy Lambeau Field to play the Packers who somehow made the playoffs after one of the craziest seasons in their stories history. Losing Aaron Rodgers for almost a third of the year almost took the Packers out of playoff contention. But thanks to Matt Flynn keeping the Pack close to the top of the NFC North and the Bears and Lions not wanting the title, the Packers improbably won the division over the Bears and face the Niners this week. I don’t think the Niners will be able to handle the horrible conditions along with a revitalized Packer team. I’ll take the Packers in a close one. Green Bay 27 San Francisco 24
